2. The North Western Great Plains The Blackfoot Indians lived in the North Western Great Plains of the United States and Canada. This includes the U.S. plains of Montana and the Canadian provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan.
3. Natural Resources There were many natural resources available to the Blackfoot Indians. The soil is very fertile and good for animals to graze and food to grow. Also, the area has lots of trees and plenty of water. The region has lots of mountains and many plants and flowers. The land is a great home to many animals.
4. Blackfoot Indian Food Buffalo was a main source of food for the Blackfoot Indians and very important to the tribe. The hunted Buffalo and other small animals such as squirrels and rabbits using bow and arrows. Also, they ate berries, nuts and roots that grew wild in the region.
5. Blackfoot Indian Clothing Blackfoot clothing was made from the skins of animals such as deer and buffalo. Men wore buckskin tunics and women wore deerskin dresses. In the cold winter months they stayed warm with buffalo hide robes. Men and women wore moccasins on their feet. Animals that lived in the area were used for food, clothing and shelter.
6. Blackfoot Indian Shelter The Blackfoot lived in teepees made out of Buffalo hide and sticks. Buffalo were very important to the Blackfoot Indians. They made houses that can be taken apart quickly so they could follow the Buffalo herds.
7. Blackfoot Indian Fun Facts Blackfoot Indians did not have horses until the North American Colonists brought them over from Europe. Before horses Blackfoot Indians sometimes worked to trick Buffalo to fall off cliffs in order to hunt them. Blackfoot women were the ones who built the teepees. Crowfoot was the name of a real Blackfoot Indian Chief. Blackfoot Indians got their name from Europeans who noticed the dark color of their black tinted moccasins.
